Young children in a childcare

An early childhood service environment that promotes positive, healthy behaviours and habits can help children to grow up to be healthy and happy adults and support staff and families to be healthy and well too.

The CBCHS Health Promotion Team can help your service to create a health promoting environment by using a whole service approach that supports the health and wellbeing of children, staff and families at your service.

A whole service approach recognises that many elements can affect health and wellbeing. To ensure wellbeing is reinforced across the service, this approach addresses these key areas:

Whole Service Approach Wheel Diagram

  • Service policies and procedures, culture and ethos, and environment
  • Curriculum, teaching and learning
  • Partnerships with staff, children, families, and the wider community

CBCHS Health Promotion Team offers free, one-on-one support to early childhood services to implement a whole service approach to health and wellbeing.

Achievement Program

The Achievement Program is an evidence-based framework that our team uses to help your early childhood service create a healthy learning environment that supports positive health and wellbeing for everyone. The initiative focuses on six core Health Priority Areas:

  • Healthy Eating & Oral Health
  • Physical Activity & Movement
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Sun Protection
  • Safe Environments
  • Tobacco, Alcohol & Other Drugs

We can help your service to work through the framework and support you to work towards achieving recognition for each Health Priority Area.

Menu Assessments

Is your Long Day Care service’s menu meeting the Victorian Government recommended Menu Planning Guidelines for Long Day Care?
Our team can support your long day care service to plan and create a nutritious, balanced menu for children in your care by completing a free menu assessment and providing advice to help align your menu with the Menu Planning Guidelines.

Ageless Friendships

An intergenerational program that connects early childhood services with aged care facilities, bringing together older adults and young children to virtually connect and share knowledge, skills and experiences.
Ageless Friendships aims to support social connection and promote respectful and positive relationships between generations, thereby contributing to the overall wellbeing of everyone involved.
