Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS) is a not for profit organisation that provides a wide range of quality health, wellbeing and social support services to the city of Kingston.

Our health services include paediatricians, specialist medical services, and a multi-disciplinary team that provides a variety of services and programmes to children in the local communities.

Our main site is located in Parkdale and we also offer programs and services from other venues in Chelsea, Clarinda, Mentone, Cheltenham, Clayton and Edithvale.

Purpose of the Position

About the Role

The purpose of the Child Psychologist is to provide a high quality, effective and efficient service to clients through the use of psychology qualifications, skills and consultation with the individual and allied health services.

This will be accomplished by working as a member of the Child Development Team with a focus on providing family centred, holistic and goal directed care that promotes clients’ wellness and active participation in decisions about their care. The role will provide assessment and treatment to pre-school and primary school aged children and families through the provision of appropriate clinical interventions assessments, group work and health promotion activities.

This role will suit someone who is just starting out on their career and who wants to be supported in their career development working in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective and efficient psychological services to the CBCHS target populations by maintaining a caseload of clients in line with CBCHS and DHHS funding requirements.
  • Participate in coordinated care for clients within the Child Development Team, with particular focus on psychological services for individuals or groups.
  • Provide psychometric testing for preschool and primary school aged children.
  • Provide high quality counselling services with a range of clinical interventions for children who present with behavioural, emotional or developmental problems and their families.
  • Deliver and evaluate appropriate group programs.
  • Liaise with other relevant services and agencies to facilitate effective care co-ordination to enable positive outcomes for children and their families.
  • Effectively identify client(s) needs for ongoing assistance and refer as appropriate
  • Maintain professional development through access to current literature, education programs and special interest groups.

 

Key Selection Criteria

About You

  • Bachelor of Psychology or recognised equivalent qualification
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and or experience working with children and families in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Ability to organise and proactively self-manage workload to meet annual performance targets and service initiatives as directed by the Department of Health and CBCHS
  • Proven ability to make rational and sound decisions and judgements based on a consideration of the facts and alternatives
  • Experience in conducting formal assessments
  • Strong commitment to delivering high levels of customer service with the ability to deliver high standards of performance and consistent professional behaviour
  • Minimum 6 months practicing experience.
