Our Paediatric Asthma educator Karen Yates is delivering a poster presentation at the Advancing Asthma, Where conference in Sydney, October, 2008.

This poster aims to give the reader a snapshot of the Better Living, Better Health Paediatric Asthma Education Service within Central Bayside Community Health, run in conjunction with Southern Health. This is an important program running within the busy Southern region of the outer Melbourne suburbs. The service provides a family-centred approach where the child is viewed in the context of their family and environment enabling interventions to best suit their needs. Asthma self-management education is well supported by literature and has been shown to reduce asthma mortality and morbidity indicators. The poster will highlight that the way forward is ensuring that what we are doing is reducing length of stay and presentations, but importantly if it is what families need. Work is currently being done to ask parents if the program fits their needs and to assess if representations and length of stay has reduced.
